About
About Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM)
Zero Defect Manufacturing is a paradigm that goes beyond traditional quality approaches.
Zero Defect Manufacturing is a highly technology intensive and strategic manufacturing approach. Quality assurance and control are the most important steps to ensure quality and safety in both product and process through the products entire lifecycle.
Producing products “correctly the first time” is a crucial principle in the new digital area. It allows for sustained and structured input, and the cooperation between man and machine.
With the use of Artificial Intelligence, IoT and Big Data, it is now possible to reach a new quality paradigm of Zero Defects into the era of Industry 4.0 and Cyber Physical Production Systems.

What is ZDM Manufuture?
The ZDM Manufuture sub-platform is an open EU platform for ZDM projects.
The platform has a long-term vision to develop a ZDM culture and ecosystem in Europe. Together we influence future R&D programmes.
Goals of the ZDM Sub-platform
The platform has multiple long-term goals
Publish scientific papers
We publish white papers and position papers on new trends in the industry.
Host ZDM events
There will be two officially hosted ZDM events per year. There are more open ZDM events here.
Build a ZDM ecosystem
We wish all European ZDM projects welcome to our sub-platform.
Register your project.
What is 4ZDM?
The 4ZDM cluster is composed of completed and running projects at FP7 or H2020, as well as the new projects under Horizon Europe.
These project teams have come together to identify technical cross-cutting issues such as: intelligent, autonomous, and self–adaptive systems for process monitoring, control and quality management; system approaches for monitoring and data processing of dimensional fluctuations; efficient simulation tools and methods to predict machining system behaviour.
As well as defining the current state-of-the-art in ZDM, the 4ZDM cluster has also enabled us to carry out a bibliographic review and highlight the most promising future research topics that will show the way towards the achieving the ZDM paradigm.
4ZDM is organized by Juanan Arrieta.
